🏠 Everyday analogy
Imagine a 100-member club where one group had 53 votes. After this election the other group has at least 54. Now it chooses the club's agenda, its committee heads and which of the President's nominees get approved.
🇮🇳 Real Indian example
India's Rajya Sabha never sees such a sudden swing, because its members are elected by MLAs in batches every two years. The US Senate is elected directly by the people of each state.

Why it mattersWhy Senate Control Matters: Judges, Treaties and Impeachment
Amendment XVII (1913). The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote.
- Confirmations: judges of the Supreme Court and other courts, Cabinet secretaries and ambassadors now need Democratic votes.
- Treaties need two-thirds (67) of the Senate, so trade and defence pacts with countries like India will need support from both parties.
- Impeachment trials happen in the Senate, but removal still needs 67 votes, which no party has.
